Boulder House is informed by its hillside location, creating a series of cascading forms that evoke the appearance of a rocky outcrop. These forms shape interconnected spaces that engage with the outdoor environment, weaving it throughout the living spaces and terraces to provide an immersive experience. Inspired by the juxtaposition of dense, natural materials and open, airy spaces, the interior showcases a gradual transition in materiality and the terraced landscape exhibits a planting palette that ranges from rugged and earthy to refined and elegant, creating an “earth-to-sky” experience throughout the property.
Interior spaces are conceptualized as geodes among the boulder-like forms, each with their own distinct, rich palette of materials, textures, and design intricacies.
The home embraces the surrounding flowing landscape, offering a truly Californian indoor-outdoor experience with sweeping views from the Santa Monica mountains.
